Indiana Soccer Foundation Golf Classic /indiana-soccer-foundation-golf-classic/ /indiana-soccer-foundation-golf-classic/#comments Fri, 12 Jun 2015 22:32:03 +0000 /?p=307 The 6th Annual Indiana Soccer Foundation Golf Classic. While still over a month away, it is an event that needs the continued support of the Indiana Soccer Hall of Fame. This year’s event is scheduled for Friday, July 24th, at the Wood Wind Country Club in Westfield.

This annual fund raising event raises funds for the Rachael Fiege Outreach Fund. This fund consists of unrestricted monies that support the Soccer Start and Soccer Across America programs and other outreach programs not funded from the Indiana Soccer annual budget. The continued financial support and success depends on this event, and this year we have set a goal of 36 foursomes. Last year we raised over $13,000 for these and other Foundation programs.

Registration, continental breakfast and practice range availability all begin at 7:30AM with a shotgun start at 8:30AM. Lunch will be provided at noon, and awards start at approximately 1:00 pm.

The cost remains the same as last year:

  • Individual Players – $150;
  • Hall of Fame (HOF) Foursomes – $467.50
  • Non HOF Foursomes – $550.
  • Foursome fees include greens fees, cart fees, practice range, lunch, hole-in-one contests and individual awards. More details can be found in the attached brochure and on the Foundation web site: www.indianasoccerfoundation.org.

Thank you in advance for your support – either through participation in a foursome or some form of corporate/personal sponsorship as described in the attached brochure.

First New Futsal Court Opened /first-new-futsal-court-opened-today/ /first-new-futsal-court-opened-today/#comments Fri, 15 May 2015 22:50:01 +0000 /?p=291 INDIANAPOLIS (Friday, May 15, 2015) – Indy Eleven Professional Soccer has teamed with Indiana Soccer and the Indiana Soccer Foundation to introduce the “Futsal for Indiana” program, which will introduce the sport of futsal to underserved Hoosiers.  Futsal, a small-sided version of soccer, is played on hard surfaces with a heavier ball and is one of the fastest growing sports in the world.

Rhodius Park is the first of 11 planned sites where Indy Eleven, Indiana Soccer and the Indiana Soccer Foundation will convert underused spaces – mostly basketball and tennis courts – into futsal courts to better serve neighborhoods and local communities. Today marks the opening of an underutilized tennis court at Rhodius Park that has been transformed into a 54-by-100 foot futsal court with a renovated surface, with funding for this initial project provided by a donation from Indy Eleven and a matching grant from the Indiana Soccer Foundation.

The program was unveiled today in conjunction with SCORE, Indy Parks, Keep Indianapolis Beautiful, Big Car Collaborative and William Penn Elementary School (IPS School 49) with the official opening of the court located on Indianapolis’ near west side.

Indy Eleven, Indiana Soccer, IPS School 49, SCORE, the Mary Rigg Neighborhood Center and additional community groups will program the new futsal court at Rhodius Park, which will also be open for general use by the community.  The first official on-site event taking place at the court will be the “Union Jack Cup” Supporters 5-v-5 Futsal Tournament, featuring teams representing six different soccer supporters groups next Saturday, May 23, starting at 10:00 a.m.

Today’s court opening at Rhodius Park is just the start of the rapid growth planned for the sport of futsal across the Hoosier State in the coming years.  Indiana Soccer will open more doors for the sport via a new partnership with US Futsal, the sport’s national governing body, to facilitate the burgeoning expansion of futsal for both recreational and competitive players of all ages and abilities.

In addition, the Mayor’s Office of the City of Indianapolis will play host to a futsal tournament on Sept. 19 at downtown’s Pan Am Plaza in conjunction with the annual Indianapolis Sister Cities Festival.  More details on the tournament, which will feature teams from across Central Indiana representing several international communities, will be unveiled by the Mayor’s Office in the coming months.

Futsal for Indiana Quote Sheet

Greg Ballard, Mayor of Indianapolis:

“Indianapolis has been a sports town for nearly a century, and I am pleased to welcome the global sport of futsal to Rhodius Park.  I appreciate Indy Eleven’s continued support for Indy Parks and continued investment in our community.”

Peter Wilt, Indy Eleven President and General Manager:

“The Futsal for Indiana launch shows what like-minded civic, private and charitable organizations can do when they have a community’s best interests in mind.  For Indy Eleven, this is about more than leaving a legacy – it’s about putting our mission statement of ‘Winning championships with and for the community’ into action.  We cannot wait to expand into additional neighborhoods across Indy and beyond with the help of Indiana Soccer, the Indiana Soccer Foundation, the City of Indianapolis and our other valued partners.”

Dave Guthrie, Indiana Soccer Executive Director

“Futsal will play a significant role in the future development of Indiana’s youth.  Indiana Soccer is honored to be among such formidable contributors to help develop futsal playing opportunities.”

Dean Vinten, Indiana Soccer Foundation Board President:

“This court fulfills the mission of the Indiana Soccer Foundation – to teach values through sports. With the values based programming that will be taught at the Rhodius Park Futsal Court, kids will learn traits that will last them the rest of their lives”

Allen McClendon, Indy Parks Sr. Manager of Community Outreach:

“Indy Parks is proud to collaborate with Indy Eleven and associated partners to promote futsal in Indianapolis.  This is yet another example of our city’s expansion of global sports as we embrace a sport popular in South America.”

About the Indiana Soccer Foundation: Formed in 1995, the Indiana Soccer Foundation is dedicated to enhance, support, promote and foster programs that benefit the long-term development of youth within Indiana communities. Our vision is to bring life changing values, through soccer, to every child, regardless of income or geographic location

Stadium Bill Wins Approval From Indiana Senate /stadium-bill-wins-approval-from-indiana-senate/ /stadium-bill-wins-approval-from-indiana-senate/#comments Wed, 22 Apr 2015 20:48:46 +0000 /?p=156 Multipurpose Stadium Legislation Heads to Conference Committee

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Thursday, April 9, 2015) – The Indiana Senate voted 46-3 today in favor of an amended version of House Bill 1273, which would lay the framework to secure an 18,000-seat multipurpose stadium in downtown Indianapolis. The stadium would serve as a permanent home for all Indy Eleven Professional Soccer games and potentially more than 30 other sports and entertainment events to be held every year on the Indiana University campus of IUPUI.

“We are thrilled that the Senate’s vote today furthers our goal to secure a proper stadium for ‘the World’s Game’ and all of its passionate supporters from across Indiana,” said Peter Wilt, president and general manager of Indy Eleven. “We look forward to building on this momentum with our partners at Indiana University and IUPUI and working towards a venue plan that will do the City and State proud while boosting Indiana’s economy for all Hoosiers.”

HB 1273 was filed by Indiana State Representative Todd Huston (Fishers – District 37) to extend a sports and entertainment development area to include a future stadium site and a new downtown Indianapolis hotel to be developed by the owner of Indy Eleven for the purpose of reinforcing stadium finances. The multipurpose stadium bill received strong bipartisan support from the Indiana House by a vote of 74-21.

The cost of the project would still be financed through user fees captured at the stadium and, if necessary, the afore-mentioned downtown hotel project.

Now that the legislation has been approved by the Indiana Senate, a conference committee of House and Senate lawmakers will work to finalize legislation for a stadium located on the campus of IUPUI that would be owned by Indiana University and have $20 million of its financing allocated by the State of Indiana.

“We appreciate the thoughtful consideration of the stadium bill by the Senate and their efforts to help create a fiscally responsible solution for a multipurpose stadium in Indianapolis,” said Ersal Ozdemir, owner of Indy Eleven. “The potential to partner with Indiana University to create a first-division-quality stadium that honors the rich heritage of soccer in the Hoosier State is being met with tremendous enthusiasm by our fans.”
